Better Website Designs: The Gift Of Creativity

March 27th, 2010 by Stephanie Dawson | No Comments | Filed in Work from Home

A good website designer is a creative artist that uses the internet as their canvas. The constant creation of art is difficult due to the demand to continuously come up with fresh original content. The ability to overcome the times when the creative juices are just not working is a gift that all good web designers possess.

The way to get over getting stuck when working on a new project is different for each person. The similarities between the road block that writers, painters or web designers reach can be overcome by using some very simple techniques. If you find yourself struggling with a tough web design, you may want to follow some basic techniques.

Brainstorm:

Brainstorming is a strategy that writers use to create new ideas. You can start brainstorming by creating one idea and placing it in a circle. The next step is to create new ideas stemming from the original, and the same is done for every new thought that you write down. Brainstorming is similar to a tree growing different branches.

Leave It Alone:

One of the best ways to stimulate new thoughts is to take a break. Sometimes it is better to just relax and release the stress placed on your mind.

Surf For Ideas Online:

Browsing the internet is a good way to collect new ideas by viewing the designs of other web developers. You can put several different ideas together to then create an original thought of your own.

Work On Something Else:

Starting on a new project can help in freeing you from your current project. It is not uncommon to complete the new project and create new ideas for the old project at the same time. It is like killing two birds with one stone.

Revisit Your Older Work:

Compare your current project with some other quality web design work that you previously created. Revamping a great design from the past will speed the process because of your familiarity with the design.

Every website creation project is a new opportunity to create something special. The challenge of bringing great websites to life may sometimes lead a website designer to a creative roadblock. The ability to conquer those challenges is what separates a good web designer from a great web designer.

Building a Structured Website With Organized Content Brings More Traffic

March 9th, 2010 by Cindy Juarez | No Comments | Filed in Web Traffic Tips

Before you begin building your website, take the time to carefully consider its layout. A well structured site with valuable, relevant, organized content will keep your readers and the search engines happy!

Your site should be structured in three tiers. Tier 1 is your home page and contains your navigation bar. Tier 2 may have multiple pages, one for each of your main topics. Tier 3 pages contain sub-topics of Tier 2 pages. Organize your website’s content in this simple fashion to make it easier for visitors to navigate through your site and make it easier for search engine spiders to find all of your pages.

Search engine spiders do not like to fish around for pages and links. That is why many sites offer a site map. A site map is one page that contains links to all of the content pages, like an outline of the site. Most people agree that a page with a lot of links on it are valued less than content pages that casually link to other content pages. Therefore, the site map may be a low level page that is not too prominent.

Using three tiers allows you to go from topic to sub-topic to sub-sub-topic all by natural links. For example, assume Tier 1 is the homepage for a gardening site. There may be several Tier 2 pages, one of which may be all about vegetable gardening and its benefits. A Tier 3 page off of that Tier 2 page may be about how to grow extra large tomatoes. Do you see how the site visitor would like this structure? They click on “Vegetable Gardening” and are given links to more specific pages on related topics. Search engine spiders like the three tier structure too. It means they do not have to dig through multiple layers of useless links. Be sure to use profitable and consistent keywords on related Tier 2 and Tier 3 pages for optimal success with the search engines.

As you develop additional content and increase the number of pages on your site, giving your visitors more to read through, it will start to position you as the expert. Your site will become known as the place for information about your niche.

When visitors find your site through search engines, they are seeking information about a problem or question they have. Having a logical structure will make it easier for them to find what they are looking for. Do not try to sell your visitors something right away. If you do, one thing is sure – they click the back button and find another site that will give them information. Give your visitors what they are seeking. Answer their question and in the process let them know about your services and products.

Providing valuable, relevant information helps build rapport and trust with your reader. Valuable information provided in a structured manner will keep your visitor on your site longer. Search engines notice this and rank you better. How well your site can keep visitors is known as “stickiness.” Your site must attract and keep visitors for as long as possible.

Provide structured content that pre-sells your products, positions you as the expert and focuses on highly profitable keywords. You cannot go wrong with your web business if you do those things. The secret to content is to satisfy both your visitor and search engines. Lose one or both and you are doomed. Having a successful web business starts with effective, organized content on a well structured website.

WordPress Lets You Easily and Quickly Create Your Own Website

March 7th, 2010 by Tommy Janes | No Comments | Filed in Web Traffic Tips

Making your own website is not as hard as some people think. In fact, you don’t need to be a computer genius or programmer to do it. Almost anyone who can find their way around a computer screen and understands the basics of the internet can create and publish their own website.

A variety of easy to use yet powerful tools have been introduced over the years to make it feasible for people to create and publish their own websites. Some of these have disappeared as new and better applications have been released. Others have stood the test of time and have been constantly improved over time as new updates are released.

However, a new web creation powerhouse technology has been steadily gaining acceptance and loyal fans over the past several years. That product is WordPress. WordPress is a free application that comes in two basic flavors. One is a hosted version, which allows you to create your own website already built-in to an existing hosting account — that’s WordPress.com.

The other flavor allows you to take the same WordPress program and install it free on your own server or a server of your choice from outside, allowing you to host your own WordPress website. The downloadable version is available at WordPress.org.

Many people think of WordPress as only a “blogging platform”, but it is actually much more widely useful than that. With WordPress, you can publish any type of website, and it doesn’t need to look like a blog at all. WordPress can handle, organize and publish any type of date to the web with no problem.

What’s more, because of the standardized site structure that WordPress creates, search engines like Google love to give great rankings to websites created with WordPress (as long as content itself is worthwhile).

Your WordPress website can be easily and inexpensively customized with a range of graphical themes, or templates which change the site’s look, as well as plugins, which add to it’s functionality, both of which are available at many sources on the web. This means that you no longer need to start from a blank page when creating a new website, but rather you can plug in different existing pieces which are already proven.

And if you’re not a do-if-yourselfer, there is a huge market of independent WordPress experts and consultants in all different price ranges that are easily found and hired to outsource the website creation.

However, don’t think you’ll need to hire expensive consultants. Creating your own website with WordPress is not that hard, and once you learn, you’ll be able to create as many websites as you want, without having to hire any designers or programmers.

It makes much more sense to “bite the bullet” and learn how to do it than it does to pay a webmaster over and over again to create websites for you. Not only can you save money, but you are the master of your own online world, able to make changes and edits, or create whole new websites without waiting for someone else to be available to fit in your work. And bottom line, WordPress is just fun to use and not all that hard to figure out, once you’re given the appropriate guidance.

And now I’d like to invite you to learn how a good friend and colleague of mine, Christina Hills, created her first WordPress site in just 15 minutes and how you can too: Website Creation Made Easy
